QOTD: 05/24/2010

Based on your careers that you investigated last week, what kind of post-secondary (after high-school) education are you interested in? Create a list of five colleges that you would like to attend. Include a “dream” (difficult to get admitted into) school and a “safety” (relatively easy to get admitted into) school. Write a sentence or two about what draws you to each college you picked.

What skills do you have?
Provide the amount of experience and level of each skill you identify.
Identify how you have used each skill you identify.
Think critically about how your hobbies and extracurricular activities have enhanced your skills (step/basketball/soccer = productive collaboration / work well with others)

Over the last four years, I have improved a large portion of my available skill set. I have improved my reading aloud skills since 9th grade, since I now feel more comfortable about it. Being able to finish work on my own without assistance. Totally dominating in Call of Duty since number 2 came out.I have also been very handy with computers being able to know how to use many programs on both mac and windows. In sports my skills have not really improved since the only real time to polish them up is after school at electives or during lunch.

What do you want in life?
What do you intend to do to make these things come about?
What kind of work do you want to do? This can be a job (doctor) or a type of work (community worker).
What can you do to get closer to your goal in the next year?
What can you do about this in the next 5 years?

What i want in life is to live a simple life, graduate high school and college, get a job and a family, a house, a xbox, and die an old man. To make these things come into fruition, I'll have to accomplish the first three things, the fourth can not be predicted, but I hope it is around my 25-30 years. every thing else will just roll into me. What field of work is to be a engineer, mechanical or computer. To get close to my goal I can graduate high school and start college. In the next five years I can graduate college and get a job.

Hello everyone, my name is devante, but everyone seems to call me tay or winston for a reason I'm not even sure of. I'm an avid supporter of the call of duty franchise ever since 2. when Im not doing homework you can catch me playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 & 2. I also enjoy playing sports and reading irregular literature. I go to school at Envision Academy. I would have to say my favorite class is DMA for multiple reasons. My philosophy on life is be out of the ordinary, and make everything a challenge. Something I recently discovered I liked but I'm mot proud of is the show Adventure time.

Fourth Wall:
The fourth wall refers to the imaginary "wall" at the front of the stage in a traditional three-walled box set theatre, through which the audience sees the action in the world of the play. The presence of the fourth wall is an established convention of fiction and drama, which has led some artists to draw direct attention to it for dramatic or comedic effect. When this boundary is "broken", for example by an actor onstage speaking to the audience directly, or doing the same through the camera in a film or television program, it is called "breaking the fourth wall."

jerry broke the fourth wall when he left the sreen after insulting the show.

storytelling

1. Mr. Mamet Describes two ways to make a movie. What are they? Following the actor around it as if the film were a record of what the protagonist did, or a succession of images juxtaposed so that the contrast beetween these images moves the story forward in the mind of the audience.

2. Uninflected is defined as something NOT changed by tone or pitch? What does that mean in film? You want them to have to guess what you're showing them is going to be used for, say in a horro movie you see a diamond fork, the girl kills the killer with said fork.

3. Mamet says we, as storytellers, should “let the cut tell the story.” What does that mean? leave it with no narration let the images you see tell you a story rather than a person. really basic one sentence lines that describe whats going on.

4. What is a shot list most similar to? What we recorded last week.really basic one sentence lines that describe whats going on.

5. Mamet gives this as an example of something you can not film without narration:”Nick, a young fellow in his thirties with a flair for the unusual.” Why would this be impossible to film without narration? Because you can't find the right images for it.

6. Why, according to Mamet, has steadycam hurt film? Because it mkes it easy to follow the protagonist around, so no one has to think about the shot thier doing, they take the lazy bum method.

7. How is a film like a dream? Because thats what it's going to end like, vastly varied, magnificently interesting, and usually uninflected.

qotd 02/16/2010

In terms of making a film, what is a beat? a term used to describe the timing and movement of a film or play. In the context of a screenplay, it usually represents a pause in dialogue. In the context of the timing of a film, a beat refers to an event, decision, or discovery that alters the way the protagonist pursues his or her goal. So like when neo discovers trinitys about to die, he saves her instead of destroying the matrix.

Monday, February 8, 2010

What is this topic? Active space is the space in front of a moving object.
How is it used in photography (and in video)?when someone views an image and spots that your subject is moving in a direction – their eye naturally moves in that direction too.
How is it supposed to help or improve an image? To help the viewer instinctively view your images to help create balance.
What happens if I don’t use it? When you have a moving shot, it wouldn't look as right if you would've used this one.

02/08/2010

QOTD: What does it mean to have intention in something you do? When you are shooting video, how do the intentions of the people creating video show? artist staement 2

My name is devante walker and this is my artist statement. My project was a slideshow of an event that happened in a different point of my life. For some unfathomable reason I chose to name mine rice krispy treat, the reason I choose this title is because I wanted a title that had nothing to do with it . Back to the main point,The goal of my story, or my story's protagonists goal dante was to beat his rival and go out with this girl he liked.

The way I choose to tell my story was through that of a narrative monologue. My voice has naturally calm and casual tone to it so I didn't really have to change my voice to go with the mood, I just had to change the volume. The types of images I used were ones relating to my montage, for instance in the specific instance i was talking about the store, I showed a picture of that store. Also as we gathered peer reviews from our classmates, we had to change our story constantly changing the legnth and adding additional content.

The reason I choose to make my video based on this incident is because we had to pick an incident of our life , so I choose this one because it was the moment I decided not ot play my xbox as much. I nay have have strthced the truth a little bit like when i said prodigy wanted to kick dantes ass. But my message was clear, persistancecy and determination can overcome all.

The process I had to go through to make my video was It had to follow the 17 stages of a story. So it had to follow a vertain story hiearchy. Making this slideshow I learned is that using all your material can be extremly rewarding. The challanges I encountered we're making my story intresting and recording my voice at the appropiate level.

I think I did pretty well on my assignment. What could have used improvement was adjusting the pictures so they all went together and making my voice louder. But went well was basically evrything else.
